Description
The Canadian company Bombardier, the biggest manufacturer of locomotives worldwide, will reduce its workforce by 6,600 and close up seven plants in Europe: 3 plants in the United Kingdom, 1 plant in Germany, 1 plant in Switzerland, 1 plant in Sweden and 1 plant in Portugal. In Portugal, the measure will affect 400 workers. According to management, there will be no collective dismissal, as they will resort to voluntary departures accompanied by special benefits. The reason of this measure is the lack of orders of material of railroad transport in the next 3 to 5 years. The global restructuring of the group represents 18.5% of its workforce in the Transportation section of Bombardier.
