Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Oxfam is to cut at least 10% of its workforce from its 700-strong headquarters staff in London. Though the charity has not experienced drops in funding, the new management is committed to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Posts in support services (receiving, processing, banking and acknowledging donations) could be outsourced to the private sector. There should be no redundancies in the process though, this reorganisation having been planned for a long time.
