Description
Scholte, a German automotive parts supplier based in Harzgerode and Wernigerode, announced the closure of its factories. One of its factories is situated on a site that it shares with the German automotive parts supplier Bohai. The closure will result in 180 layoffs by the end of January 2027.
Bohai, a German automotive parts supplier based in Harzgerode, announced the closure of its aluminium casting plant and related facilities in Harzgerode and Wernigerode. This closure was preceded by insolvency proceedings initiated in 2025, during which no suitable investors were found: Bohai Automotive 2026 - DE. Scholte carried out further processing of the parts manufactured by Bohai. With the loss of orders from Bohai, Scholte can no longer keep its business afloat. Moreover, the two companies also faced a decline in orders from Volkswagen.
It is to be expected that the redundancies will take place in waves until production ceases. No precise timetable was announced. All redundancies are concentrated in Harzgerode and Wernigerode.
The IG Metall has criticised the layoffs and announced to negotiate a social plan for the affected employees. The works council also participates in these negotiations.
Even though only 180 employees from Scholte are affected a total of more than 700 employees from both Bohai and Scholte are affected in the whole region.
