Description
Semikron Danfoss, a German power-electronics manufacturer that is part of the Danish group Danfoss, announced a reduction of about 90 jobs at its site in Flensburg. The cuts target production workers and will coincide with the relocation of part of the manufacturing division to Slovakia. The job cuts have only been announced so far. There is no specific timeline yet.
The outsourcing coincides with a strategic realignment. The company identified industrial drives, renewable energy, energy storage, and data centers as its growth areas. The wage gap between Slovakia and Germany is also likely to be a factor in the decision.
Since the job cuts were just announced, the timeline remains uncertain, and it is not clear whether management and the works council will negotiate a severance plan. The restructuring should only affect the site in Flensburg.
IG Metall was consulted during earlier layoffs and remains involved in discussions with employees about the current measures.
Semikron Danfoss employs more than 3,500 people worldwide. Slovakia, China, Germany and India are among the eight countries in which the company operates production sites. Currently, there where about 200 employees working for Semikron Danfoss in Flensburg, 150 of which work in the Industrial division. Around two out of five employees at the site in Flensburg will have to leave.
Previous layoffs affected 200 employees of the company's automotive division: Semikron Danfoss 2024 - DE.
