Description
Nokia, the Finnish network equipment manufacturer, announced the elimination of 253 positions across its Espoo, Tampere and Oulu sites. The cuts are part of a cost-saving programme intended to reinforce competitiveness and enable investment in strategic areas such as defence, artificial intelligence and data centre capabilities.
Cooperation negotiations with employees commence on 12 October 2026. The company stated that the reductions will be executed responsibly, with affected staff receiving detailed information about the process, available options and support measures.
The restructuring is driven by a need to reduce operating costs in a rapidly evolving market environment. According to an employee representative for senior salaried staff, the announcement was expected, as they've seen cooperation negotiations previously begin in the autumn.
Nokia employs approximately 6,800 people in Finland.
The last time Nokia announced a larger internal restructuring, leading to more than 100 job losses in Finland, was in the Spring of 2026 Nokia 2026 - FI.
