Description
The Wellbeing Services County of North Savo (Pohjois-Savon hyvinvointialue), a Finnish public health care region, announced the reduction of 275 jobs across its services as a result of cooperation negotiations.
The cuts comprise 50 direct dismissals and 2225 other measures that include retirements, termination of fixed-term contracts, position closures and unfilled vacancies. Units affected span personnel services, family and disability support, elderly care, administration, strategy development, financial services, property management, rescue services and special assistance.
The restructuring is driven by fiscal constraints aimed at securing €11.6 million in savings for the next year, following a period of budget tightening.
The negotiations ended in August 2026 in disagreement. All five staff organisations opposed the outcome. The original negotiation results included permanent reductions in staff equivalent to a total of 212 full-time equivalents, 43 of which would take the form of redundancies.
