Description
Ouest-France, a French media company headquartered in Rennes, announced the elimination of 156 positions, 116 in their editorial staff. The company is restructuring due to the continuing decrease in revenue, caused by the decrease in sales of paper journals and advertisement income. No firings are planned, but rely on natural departures and end of fixed-term contracts.
The job cuts are set to conclude by the end of 2028. Digital transition, driven by the implementation of AI tools for efficiency, is cited as a key factor underpinning the restructuring. However, the trade unions CFDT, CGT, FO, and SNJ have all warned about the impact on working conditions.
In 2025, the newspaper had a total workforce of 1,663 in France.
Two large-scale restructurings have been recorded in EMR, with the latest in 2013 Ouest-France 2013 - FR.
