Description
Afpa, the French public agency in vocational training, announced that 788 job cuts will take place until 2029, as well as 79 job modifications and 400 recruitments. This internal restructuring aims to limit the losses of the national agency which has been facing deficits due to decreasing turnover and high maintenance costs. Indeed, it is less competitive than its private counterparts, who are gaining competitiveness in public procurement. The agency therefore aims to resolve this issue in the following three years.
In the Grand Est region, 139 employees will lose their jobs. The plan also involves closing several centres, notably those in Verdun (Meuse) and Saint-Dizier (Haute-Marne). The recruitment of 400 new positions will take place in commercial development and the opening of 13 additional sites.
Several trade unions, such as CGT, FO and Sud, have voiced their concerns.
Afpa’s total workforce stands at approximately 5,410 before the restructuring.
