Description
Nedri Spanstaal, a Dutch producer of prestressing steel and industrial wire, plans to close its production site in Blerick, Limburg, by the end of 2026, putting all 121 jobs at the site at risk. The company has faced a deterioration in its financial position, with lower investment by customers, reduced housing construction, US tariffs on steel and high energy prices cited as contributing factors; its turnover reportedly fell to €70 million in 2025 and it recorded a €3.2 million loss.
The proposed closure must still be considered by the works council. A Trade Union FNV representative said the union intends to discuss the consequences with employees and, if the closure proceeds, seek support for workers to move into other employment or retraining, involving the parent group.
Nedri has operated for around a century and produces specialised steel wire used in applications including bridges, wind energy, railway systems and construction.
