Description
CATA, a Latvian regional public transport enterprise, announced the layoff of 75 employees in Ogre and Aizkraukle as part of its decision to cease passenger services on those routes. The company will continue operating buses for other routes such as Liepāja, Jelgava, Preiļi, and Līvāni.
The restructuring is driven by contractual adjustments that extended the existing service agreement for one year while postponing new route implementation. CATA representatives criticised the procurement process, while the Latvian Passenger Transport Association criticised delays in arranging the service handover. The job cuts are expected to start around 1 July 2022, with final termination anticipated in late summer.
