European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
ArcelorMittal, a multinational steel producer, announced the shutdown of its primary steel production facilities in Duisburg, resulting in approximately 550 job losses across the plant’s units. The closure is scheduled to conclude by October 2027. The planned restructuring would involve the closure of the steel plant, continuous casting facility and billet rolling mill, affecting around 550 jobs out of approximately 800 positions at the site.
The company attributed the decision to the expiry of a long-term pig iron supply agreement with Thyssenkrupp Steel, unsuccessful attempts to secure alternative supplies, high CO₂ costs and challenging conditions in the European steel industry.
Employee representatives are beginning social plan negotiations.
The company employes 125,554 workers worldwide, among which 9,400 work at five sites in Germany.
