European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Continental, a German automotive supplier, announced the closure of its solid-rubber industrial tyres production in Korbach, Hesse, which will affect about 140 employees by mid-2029 as production is shifted to Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
The decision follows long-term underutilisation of capacity and increasing cost pressures.
Continental aims to avoid dismissals and plans to implement socially responsible measures, such as career transition support and training for the 140 employees affected in Korbach. These measures are to be negotiated with the work council, which has criticizes Continental’s decision to close and outsource the production.
The company employs around 2,400 people in Korbach. The remaining production activities at the site are not affected by the planned changes.
