European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The Wellbeing Services County of North Ostrobothnia Pohde, a Finnish regional public authority responsible for health, social and rescue services, announced the dismissal of 302 employees to reduce personnel costs by approximately €25 million. Up to 511 employment relationships may end in total, with further reductions pursued through retirements and the expiry of fixed-term contracts. Furloughs and part-time arrangements were also possible.
The cuts affect staff across the regional authority in North Ostrobothnia. They are driven by a funding gap, as projected budget growth of approximately 1.6% falls short of rising salary and service costs. Reductions are concentrated among managers, specialists, administrative staff and patient-care workers.
Tehy, the trade union, criticised the decision. Its chief shop steward at Pohde argued that staff were already under severe pressure and that workloads would increase for those remaining. Tehy also stated that it was not satisfied with the cooperation-negotiation process.
