European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The Gesamthafenbetrieb (GHB), a German port labour and staffing provider, has announced plans to cut 150 jobs across its operations in Bremen and Bremerhaven, affecting roughly one-fifth of its workforce of around 850 employees. The redundancies are expected to take effect following the announcement made at the end of August 2026.
The restructuring has been driven by a decline in cargo throughput at the Bremen ports, prompting management to reduce staffing levels accordingly. Details regarding the method of implementation have not been disclosed.
The Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) party has called for the layoffs to be prevented and has urged management to enter into discussions with the works council.
The company employs around 850 people, so the job cuts correspond to approximately one fifth of the workforce.
