European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Halberstädter Konserven, a German meat-processing company, has announced the permanent closure of its production facility in Halberstadt. As a result, all 152 positions at the plant will be eliminated. Production will cease as the business is wound down.
The trade union Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) confirmed that all staff received dismissals. Employees are currently awaiting outstanding wages, as insolvency benefits have not yet been approved.
The closure follows the company's third insolvency proceeding, which began in early June. The insolvency was driven by rising energy and raw material costs, as well as the generally challenging economic environment.
The job losses are being implemented through direct redundancies. However, a number of the 152 employees have already left the company and secured new employment elsewhere.
The business was founded more than 140 years ago.
