European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Folding Boxboard, a Dutch paper board manufacturer, announced the permanent closure of its factory in Eerbeek, Gelderland, resulting in 180 job losses.
The plant, formerly part of the Austrian paper conglomerate Mayr Melnhof and later acquired by an American investor in 2021, will no longer operate following a failed restart attempt by prospective buyers Richard Getkate and Siegfried Homann.
The shutdown is driven by escalating energy costs, increased US import tariffs, and heightened competition on the European paper market. This decision follows earlier plant closures in Germany and other Dutch locations, underscoring the challenges facing the paper sector. All job losses are considered direct dismissals.
