European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Lear, an automotive parts supplier, has announced the closure of its plant in Gründau, resulting in the loss of approximately 180 jobs across production and logistics functions. The redundancy process is now under way, and the site is scheduled to cease operations by mid-2027.
As part of a global realignment strategy, Lear intends to discontinue its production and logistics activities at the Gründau facility and transfer the remaining production capacity to Slovakia, Serbia and Tunisia. The company will, however, retain around 120 engineering positions at the site.
Representatives of the works council and the IG Metall trade union have strongly opposed the decision, highlighting the legal protections afforded to employees under the applicable collective agreement. Negotiations on a social plan are expected to begin in the coming weeks in order to support affected employees.
Lear currently employs around 300 people at the Gründau site.
