European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Knorr-Bremse GmbH Division IFE Automatic Door Systems, a German company operating in the transportation systems sector, announced the reduction of 41 positions at its Kematen site in Austria.
The cuts are part of the group’s strategy to enhance cost efficiency and competitiveness amid challenging market conditions. The restructuring focuses on streamlining operations within the doors business unit without affecting the global headquarters status in Kematen.
All 41 job losses will take place at the Kematen facility, which currently employs about 371 staff.
Discussions with affected employees will occur at the end of August and beginning of September, accompanied by a negotiated social plan to mitigate economic and social consequences.
The works council has agreed on the social plan and is involved in consultations; however, criticism has occurred as despite a highly profitable EBIT margin of over 10%, job cuts are foreseen.
Employees argue there is no economic emergency justifying the cuts, suspecting a systematic relocation of expertise and value creation to India, where capacities are currently expanding.
