Description

Vantaa municipality, a Finnish local government entity, announced internal restructuring measures that could affect up to 900 employees. Up to 200 employees are facing potential dismissals, whilst possible furloughs or part-time measures could affect up to 700 employees across its city services (excluding, for example, teachers). The workforce totals about 8 500 personnel.

Negotiations will be discussed by the city council in mid-August 2026, with a savings target of €15 million. The restructuring is driven by fiscal pressures, as Vantaa faced an almost €80 million deficit last year and aims to balance its budget over the 2026-2029 term.

The potentially affected staff mainly comprise administrative employees in municipal departments outside schools and kindergartens. The trade union Jyty representative, representing municipal employees, has been notified of the planned measures and expressed surprise at the news.
