Description
St Bernhard Hospital in Brake, a German healthcare institution, has announced the closure of its facility, resulting in the loss of approximately 350 jobs at the site in August 2026.
The closure follows insolvency proceedings initiated last year. Although the hospital had originally been expected to cease operations in September, the shutdown has been brought forward to August as patient numbers and staffing levels have continued to decline and the financial crisis has worsened.
There have been disputes between the workforce and the hospital management over a social plan. No concrete social plan has been agreed. In addition, the insolvency wage scheme secures the salaries of the approximately 350 employees only until 14 August 2026. A review of potential claims for damages has been initiated.
