Description
Schön Klinik, a German healthcare provider, announced the closure of several non-core departments at its Vogtareuth facility, resulting in approximately 200 job losses across its clinical units. The restructuring was announced in September 2025 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
The measure forms part of a strategic realignment intended to secure the long-term viability of the hospital. The reorganisation is aimed at concentrating resources on the clinic’s core areas of expertise through the establishment of two dedicated centres: the Centre for Paediatrics and the Centre for Orthopaedics. As part of this process, departments that do not align with the new strategic focus are being closed. These include adult neurosurgery, adult neurology, cardiac and vascular surgery, and hand, plastic and breast surgery.
Ver.di and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) have offered consultations for affected employees, highlighting workforce involvement during the restructuring process.
The Schön Clinic Group operates healthcare facilities in both Germany and the United Kingdom and employs approximately 13,800 people.
