European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Mediaworks, a Hungarian media and publishing company, has announced the cancellation of roughly 200 positions within its county-level newspaper operations. The list of affected newspapers is not known, but as a clarification, the company states the layoffs are merely the legal completion of a countrywide restructuring effort that began earlier.
The expected employment effect of this restructuring was reported in early June in tentative terms. The company’s restructuring is driven by its efforts to regain its footing after the newly elected government discontinued the government advertising contract that had provided the bulk of the conglomerate's revenue.
