European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Fibre Excellence, a French paper pulp manufacturer, has been placed into judicial liquidation for its Tarascon (Bouches-du-Rhône) plant, putting 270 jobs at risk. The Toulouse Commercial Court ruled that the site’s financial situation was “irreversibly compromised”, with liabilities of nearly €105 million and no viable buyer identified.
The decision follows the rejection of an overall takeover offer submitted by financier Matthieu Pigasse, which was supported by the CGT, CFDT and FO trade unions but required additional State guarantees. Trade union representatives expressed strong disappointment, describing the decision as a “cold shower” after months of mobilisation to preserve jobs.
The Saint-Gaudens (Haute-Garonne) site, also employing 270 workers, remains under consideration for a potential takeover by an industrial buyer. The buyer was given additional time to provide €2 million in funding.
