Description
Mubea Automotive Slovakia, a German-owned automotive parts manufacturer, announced the closure of its Kežmarok plant, resulting in 123 job losses. The affected unit is the production facility for stabilisation rods, and all dismissals are concentrated in Kežmarok. Collective redundancies began with the first employees leaving in July 2026, with the final wave expected to conclude by the end of the year. The restructuring follows a prolonged decline in the European market for stabilisation rods, rendering the Kežmarok site economically unsustainable and prompting consolidation of production at Mubea's main facility in Spain.
Employee representatives, the trade union OZ KOVO, were consulted by management before the layoffs were formally announced, and the consultation process concluded on 18 June 2026, one day before the company notified the labour office of the collective redundancy. Through this process, the union negotiated a severance package for affected employees that goes beyond the statutory minimum, on top of standard severance pay and notice periods.
The company also offered employees the option to transfer to other Mubea plants elsewhere in Europe, along with support for job placement, interview preparation, and training. Mubea is additionally exploring potential sale or cooperation models for the Kežmarok site, though the plant's shutdown remains scheduled for the end of the year.
