European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Magna, a Canadian automotive supplier, has announced the permanent closure of its production plant in Dorfprozelten, Bavaria, Germany. The shutdown will result in the loss of 216 jobs and is scheduled to take effect by mid-2027.
The company cites the ongoing crisis in the automotive industry, adverse market conditions and negative business performance as the main reasons for ceasing operations at the site. Despite previous investments and cost-cutting measures, the facility was considered no longer viable, and no new product programmes have been allocated to the plant.
Representatives of IG Metall expressed dissatisfaction over what they described as broken promises regarding the future of the facility, as in 2023 the company had assured the union that the site would remain operational until the end of 2028.
Magna International employs approximately 154,000 people worldwide across 28 countries.
Previous internal restructuring measures were recorded in the ERM database in 2025, resulting in the loss of 162 jobs Magna 2025 - DE.
