Description
MEO, the Portuguese telecommunications operator of Altice Portugal, has announced plans to reduce its workforce by around 1,200 employees during 2026. The company intends to implement the workforce reduction through mutual termination agreements under the Portuguese legal restructuring framework, allowing eligible employees to access unemployment benefits, rather than through a collective dismissals.
According to the company, the measure is intended to reduce costs and strengthen its financial position in response to ongoing financial pressures. Trade unions have challenged the justification for the restructuring, arguing that MEO has not demonstrated that its financial situation warrants a workforce reduction of this scale.
