European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Renault, a French automotive manufacturer, announced a voluntary departure plan affecting 800 engineers mainly in Île de France, with cuts expected by the end of 2027.
The restructuring aims to enhance competitiveness against Chinese rivals and accelerate technology adoption including AI integration and electrification. Departures will be voluntary, with no mandatory dismissals reported; the company also plans to recruit around 200 new engineers in the same period. Protests by CGT unions have been organized at Guyancourt and Villiers-Saint-Frédéric sites.
Previously, Renault had been mentioned in the ERM Events Database announcing a layoff of 3,000 staff worldwide in 2025.Renault 2025 - WO
The Renault group employs 100,000 staff worldwide. Of the group’s 5,500 engineers in France and 11,000 worldwide, 800 jobs are therefore being lost, representing nearly 15% of the country’s engineering workforce.
