Description

Slovenska industrija jekla (SIJ) Group, the Slovenian metallurgical producer, is restructuring its organisation due to rising energy costs and competition from China in the steel industry, resulting in the loss of 300 jobs.

In addition to challenging economic conditions, the company is reorganising at the request of the banks with which it has reached a debt restructuring agreement. The company has also begun seeking a strategic partner.

SIJ Group employs around 3,500 people globally, including 3,300 employees in Slovenia. The company is majority-owned by the Russian company Dilon, while the Slovenian state holds a 25% stake.
