Description
Siempelkamp, a German machinery manufacturer, has announced 129 job cuts at its plant in Zweibrücken.
The company is restructuring due to a severe downturn in the wood-processing market, with declining demand for shredding machines and increased competition from China, forcing a strategic realignment. In future, the site will only produce spare parts, and in-house manufacturing will be discontinued.
Union representatives from IG Metall and the works council aim to negotiate a reduction in job losses and to ensure socially responsible measures, including a social plan. The restructuring is expected to be completed within the coming months, as the company has made clear its intention to proceed swiftly, with all changes to be finalised once negotiations conclude.
Siempelkamp employs around 282 people at its Zweibrücken site, meaning that the 129 job cuts represent nearly half of the workforce.
