Description
Stellantis, an italo-franco-americain automotive group, announced the elimination of 650 engineering positions at its Opel R&D site in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The cuts will reduce the engineering team from 1,650 to 1,000 specialists. The restructuring in Germany is slated to be completed by the end of 2027, as mentioned in the ERM Events Database Opel 2026 - DE.
The move reflects Stellantis’ strategy to re-allocate engineering talent across its global network, hiring 2,000 engineers in the United States and 700 in France: Opel 2026 - FR, while investing €120 million in a new, fully automated, decarbonised paint shop in Sochaux, France. Stellantis has not disclosed involvement from trade unions or other social partners in this announcement, and no negotiations have been reported
