European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
American Express, a U.S. multinational financial and travel-services firm, announced the elimination of 116 positions in its Spanish operations. The job cuts will affect the billing and Traveler Care departments located in Madrid and Barcelona, with dismissals finalised on 30 November 2026.
The restructuring is driven by the outsourcing of billing to India and corporate reservation services to Mexico, alongside ongoing integration challenges with CWT and the potential influence of AI on reservation workflows. The layoffs represent a substantial reduction in the company’s Spain-based workforce, signalling a strategic shift toward external service delivery.
