Description
Ikea, a Swedish furniture retailer and home furnishing company, announced approximately 363 job cuts in Dortmund, Germany. The restructuring affects two units: the Ikea IT Germany GmbH and the Ikea Purchasing Services Germany GmbH procurement and logistics centre. Around 70 jobs will be lost through the closure of the IT unit, while 293 positions in the procurement and logistics business are affected in Dortmund.
The shutdown of the IT unit, part of the Ingka group, and the downsizing of the purchasing and logistics centre are part of a broader global restructuring aimed at streamlining operations and reducing costs Ikea 2026 - WO. The company is relocating key functions to larger global hubs, notably moving procurement activities to Warsaw. This restructuring reflects a strategic shift towards digitalised processes and global consolidation.
The company is working closely with its works council to support affected staff, but has yet to disclose the measures by which the job cuts will be implemented.
The company employs around 27,500 people worldwide.
