Description
MediaMarktSaturn Dortmund, a German retail electronics chain, announced the closure of its stores in Dortmund and Witten, resulting in the loss of approximately 100 jobs. The closure of the Witten site is scheduled for the end of May 2026, while the Dortmund site is expected to close by the end of September 2026. Employees were informed of the decision in early May.
The decision follows a broader downturn in the retail sector, as well as financial losses incurred by the company. Increasing competition has further intensified the situation.
The decision was negotiated with the works council, which secured a social plan including standard severance payments. Continued employment for the affected employees was not possible, as both sites are being closed. A solution for apprentices is still being sought.
MediaMarktSaturn Dortmund is a locally incorporated subsidiary operating individual retail sites within the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group.
