Description
A total of 2,174 jobs are expected to be cut by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIM), operating in the public education sector, affecting ATA staff positions nationwide, with job reductions distributed across all Italian regions for the 2026/27 school year, including 179 posts in Veneto, 187 in Lazio, 251 in Campania, 205 in Lombardy, 190 in Puglia, 181 in Tuscany, and smaller cuts in the remaining regions.
Trade unions, including CGIL, CISL, UIL, SNALS, Gilda and Anief, have expressed strong opposition to the measures, describing them as financially driven and disconnected from the operational needs of schools, and have called for negotiations with the Ministry to halt the reductions and instead launch a plan to strengthen ATA staffing levels; concerns have also been voiced by several school principals regarding organisational reliability and service quality.
