Description
Sofiyski Metropoliten the transport authority managing the metro servicing the city of Sofia announced the opening of a 3 km metro extension that will create 100 new jobs and feature the following three new stations: Stadion Georgi Asparuhov, Vitiniya and Gen. Vladimir Vazov.
The expansion is part of a wider plan to add ten stations across the city, including further extensions in Poduyane, Slatina, and Obelia, all funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan with a budget of about 284 million leva. New parking facilities will also be built at the Gen. Vladimir Vazov and Vitiniya stations, adding around 500 additional spots.
The project, which began construction on 21 March 2022, is expected to reach full operation by the end of 2026, enabling faster, more reliable travel for Sofia’s 650 thousand daily passengers.
