Description

Meta, an American technology company operating in the social media sector, announced the reduction of 350 positions in its Irish operation, part of a broader global plan to cut approximately 8,000 jobs.

The layoffs are focused on its Irish workforce of about 1,800 employees and will involve a collective redundancy process. The restructuring is driven primarily by the company's effort to enhance AI workflows, with a strategic shift of 7,000 staff into AI-related roles and the elimination of certain managerial positions. The job cuts are set to affect Irish staff across the company’s Irish operations.

The company has issued a collective redundancy notice to the Department of Enterprise. Unions are calling for greater regulation and stakeholder involvement in managing the impact of AI-driven restructuring.

Meta employs around 1,800 people in Ireland and operates globally across numerous markets; it remains a leading player in the tech industry. Following the redundancies, the company’s workforce in Ireland is expected to fall to just under 1,500 employees, continuing a downward trend from previous rounds of layoffs in 2022 and 2023: Meta 2023 - Ireland and Meta 2022 - Ireland.
