Description
Pfizer, an American pharmaceutical multinational, announced 102 voluntary redundancies at its manufacturing plant in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork, Ireland.
The cuts stem from patents for key drugs ending, reducing production demand, and aligning with long-term business objectives. SIPTU, the local union, has requested an urgent meeting with management after the announcement. The union represents about 300-400 members at the site. The plant employs about 800 people, meaning the job cuts represent roughly 12% of the workforce at that site. Job cuts will be in the form of redundancy and will take effect in the fourth quarter of 2026.
In total Pfizer employs some 4,500 people in Ireland. Other Pfizer sites in Newbridge and Dublin remain unaffected.
Last year Pfizer cut 210 jobs in Ireland as the result of its global $1.5 billion cost-cutting programme: Pfizer 2024 - Ireland.
