Description
Swedish home appliance company Electrolux has announced the closure ot its refrigerator production site in Jászberény, in the Northern Great Plain region. The closure will be completed by the end of 2026 and will lead to the lay-off of around 600 employees.
The management says the downsizing is a part of a revision of its corporate strategy to improve cost efficiency and ensure the flexible operation in an environment of stagnating demand and increasing competitive pressures. This is related to a global cost reduction effort which has already led to the net layoff of 250 employees worldwide in September 2025, which was registered by the ERM events database Electrolux Professional 2025 - World.
The firm announced that it will negotiate with the works council and the trade union to ensure a fair severance pay package. The company will also contact local authorities and the employment department of the government office. It will invite an external expert to help the affected workers to find new employment.
The closure will not affect the availability of products for partners and consumers, according to the management.
