Description
CET Govora, a Romanian coal power plant, announced the dismissal of 197 employees in the Cariera Alunu, Cariera Panga and Cariera Vest zones of the Govora plant. The closures began on 16 April 2026 and are expected to conclude by 31 August 2026.
The restructuring is driven by the plant’s financial difficulties, rising CO2 certificate costs, and the need to adapt to the national recovery and resilience plan (PNRR). The shutdown is part of a broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions in Romania’s energy sector.
All 197 jobs will be terminated through collective dismissals. The layoffs are confined to the Govora site. The plant’s shutdown reflects a national green transition, as Romania seeks to cut fossil-fuel dependence and comply with EU climate targets.
