Description
The Brandenburg State Government ("Landesregierung Brandenburg"), a German state authority, announced a five percent reduction in its civil service, equal to around 700 positions. The announcement was made in April 2026, and the measures will be implemented in Brandenburg from 2027 to 2029.
The staff reductions will mainly affect administrative staff. However, several departments, such as the police, justice system, schools, and finance, were excluded from the job cuts. The restructuring aims to better balance revenues and spending in response to strong financial pressure to save on costs. The federal state government plans to take on less public debt in 2027 and 2028 in comparison to the previous years 2025 and 2026.
