Description
Envalior, a plastics manufacturer, announced plans to close its glass fibre division at the Kallo site in Beveren‑Kruibeke‑Zwijndrecht in Belgium, putting 220 jobs at risk. The job cuts would affect production workers employed in the glass fibre unit at the Kallo plant, with employees expected to lose their jobs by the end of 2026.
The planned closure is driven by persistently high energy, raw material and labour costs, combined with falling demand and strong import pressure from low‑cost regions. Envalior states that market conditions have deteriorated to the point where glass fibre production in Kallo is structurally loss‑making, with production costs exceeding market prices.
Workers will be offered redeployment and a social plan under collective dismissal procedures. Trade unions have expressed disappointment and are preparing to engage in social dialogue.
Envalior operates two production sites in the port of Antwerp and employs around 830 people in total. The Kallo site specialises in glass fibre products used in sectors such as automotive manufacturing, wind turbines and household appliances.
