Description
The Fondation Œuvre de la Croix Saint-Simon, a French non-profit organisation operating in the health and social care sector, announced that 800 jobs are at risk following a plan to sell all its activities, with 35 childcare centres threatened with closure in Paris, France.
The restructuring concerns mainly childcare and healthcare staff across its early childhood and hospital units. The foundation has been under judicial recovery since November 2025, and the call for potential buyers was launched in mid-April 2026, with a court decision expected in autumn 2026.
The restructuring is driven by severe financial difficulties affecting the sanitary, social and medico-social sector, including reduced public subsidies, rising operating costs, and additional expenses linked to health sector reforms.
Trade unions and employees’ representatives have mobilised against the potential closures.
The Fondation Œuvre de la Croix Saint-Simon, founded over 120 years ago and recognised as a public-interest organisation, manages around 65 facilities in the Paris region, covering healthcare, early childhood education, disability services, elderly care, training and research. The foundation employs approximately 1,800 people in France, all of whom are potentially concerned by the sale process.
