Description

The minstry of defence is cutting 7,642 positions in France as part of a public sector headcount redution of 30,401 workers.

Under Sarkozy presidency the public sector headcount will be redued by replacing only one in every two retiring public servants. The areas most affected are education (14,000 job losses), defence (7462 jobs) and functions under the responsibility of the Ministère De L'Intérieur (3,621 job) and Ministère Du Budget (2,870 jobs). The cuts announced are somewhat lower than those originally foreseen (33,000) as there will be a lower level of retirements from the public service in 2012.
