Description
Sikorsky Aircraft, an American helicopter manufacturer operating in the aerospace and defence industry, announced plans to cut about 540 jobs, representing roughly 3% of its workforce in Poland, as part of a global restructuring: Sikorsky Aircraft 2015 - PL.
The restructuring occurs after after losing out to Airbus for a manufacturing contract with the Polish Armed Forces. The restructuring aims to maintain competitiveness as earlier growth rates are no longer sustainable due to changing economic conditions affecting both commercial and military customers. The company supplies helicopters to all branches of the US armed forces as well as to military and commercial operators internationally, linking the restructuring partly to defence-related demand.
Sikorsky employs around 18,000 people worldwide, with over 1680 employees in Poland. The company has manufacturing and assembly plants in several US states, as well as facilities in Poland and joint venture operations in Turkey and China.
