Description

German battery and accumulator manufacturer BMZ Battery Solutions has announced that it will cut 253 of the 460 jobs at its site in Karlstein am Main (Bavaria), Germany.

The company first filed for insolvency in October 2025 and was now subsequently acquired by the investment firm Skion. According to the company, the insolvency was caused by an acute liquidity crisis and the loss of a major customer. Other BMZ locations will not be affected by the job cuts.

The job reductions are a result of the acquisition as the company attempts to reposition itself. In the future the company wants to focus on battery systems and accumulators for industrial purposes. According to the company spoke person, it was attempted to retain as much personnel as possible, however, some positions had to be cut and some left the company voluntarily given its unclear future.

The company was founded in 1994 and employs around 1,400 people worldwide.
