Description
Alimerka, the Asturian food retail group, has launched a major employment and labour improvement plan involving the recruitment of 500 new employees and the extension of annual leave for its workforce by up to eight additional days. The company has allocated €13 million to this initiative, which is already underway. In recent weeks, more than 300 workers have joined on permanent contracts, with structured training programmes aimed at enhancing customer service, particularly in the fresh produce, fish and meat sections—areas that the company considers emblematic of its brand.
In addition to new hiring, Alimerka will introduce the extra annual rest days this year, complementing the recent implementation of a 37.5-hour working week and a guaranteed two-day weekly rest period. The company also highlighted a salary increase introduced in January, representing an investment of over €3 million.
With more than 6,000 employees and 170 supermarkets across Asturias, León, Valladolid, Burgos, Zamora and Lugo, Alimerka underlines that these measures reflect its commitment to talent retention, employee wellbeing and maintaining a competitive and customer-focused retail model.
The company experienced a previous business creation process in 2010Alimerka 2010-ES, with the creation of 300 new jobs
