Description
Chemical company BASF has announced plans to relocate certain divisions in Germany to India and Malaysia, leading to the loss of minimum 100 jobs. The sites affected include Berlin and Schwarzheide (Brandenburg).
At the Schwarzheide location, the Digital Solutions unit, which employs around 100 staff members, is expected to be fully phased out by the end of 2027. The activities of the Global Business Services division are to be consolidated within a newly established global hub in India.
The Berlin site currently employs approximately 2,800 people. It remains unclear how many of these positions will be affected by the planned job reductions and relocations.
The IGBCE union has criticized the plans and announced resistance.
The Global Business Services division employs 8,500 people worldwide, and BASF as a whole has a global workforce of around 112,000 employees.
