Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Alinea, a French furniture retailer announced that 1,000 of its 1,172 employees nationwide face potential dismissal. The restructuring is already underway, with the company’s future hinging on a decision to be made by the end of March after the withdrawal of a purchase offer from SDC Holding. Around 240 jobs might be saved.
Employees at Alinea are considering a strike in the coming days, reflecting their discontent with the current situation and preparing future negotiations. Alinea operates 36 stores across France, with the potential closure of all its outlets threatening the survival of the chain.
A prior case has been recorded in the ERM database in 2017 Alinea 2018 - FR.
