Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Allianz Partners, a subsidiary of the German insurance group Allianz specialising in travel insurance and assistance services, has announced plans to cut 120 positions in its call center operations in Germany over the next 12 to 18 months.
The restructuring is driven by a push toward digitalisation: Allianz Partners intends to replace a large portion of simple telephone inquiries with artificial intelligence systems that can handle hundreds of calls simultaneously in more than 20 languages.
The job cuts are part of a global restructuring program affecting between 1,500 and 1,800 jobs worldwide Allianz Partners 2025 - WO.
Allianz Partners employs 22,600 people worldwide, with 14,000 in its call center sector and 1,600 people in Germany, primarily in and around Munich.
