Description
The three German subsidiaries of the Belgian DOMO Investment Group: DOMO Chemicals, DOMO Caproleuna, and DOMO Engineering Plastics, have filed for insolvency. A total of 585 employees are affected: 35 at DOMO Chemicals in Leuna (Saxony-Anhalt), 480 at DOMO Caproleuna in Leuna, and 70 at DOMO Engineering Plastics in Premnitz (Brandenburg).
The reasons for the insolvency are weak demand in the European chemical industry, high energy prices, and sharply increased imports of polyamide resin from non‑EU countries, especially from China. Talks with new potential investors are currently underway.
Employees' salaries during the insolvency negotiations are secured for three months through insolvency benefits.
The state of Saxony‑Anhalt has stepped in to maintain emergency operations until April, because shutting down the plant would be dangerous due to the risk of frost.
** Updated, 01/04/2026 **
At the beginning of April 2026, the insolvency administrator announced that the shutdown of the chemical plant in Leuna (Saxony-Anhalt) has been averted. The Domo Caproleuna plant has been transferred to a newly established holding company. The acquiring company is taking over the site and the property in Leuna, as well as 436 of the roughly 500 employees. 39 employees were given redundancy notices for operational reasons.
